Geez, China will do anything to get an edge…

I’m not keeping up much with the Olympics, but I keep hearing and seeing reports on, first of all, how some (read: most) of China’s female gymnasts aren’t even of age to compete. I think the girls have to be at least 16, yet some are proven to be 14, if not younger. Falsified passports and whatnot, yet no one is lifting a finger.

I can understand not wanting to ruin the sanctity of the games and all that noble bullshit, and that China is the host country and all…but this is ridiculous. As of last count, China has almost 50 gold medals in these games, a fair number of which probably shouldn’t count due to the age discrepancies of their gymnasts.

(The USA still leads in the overall medal count. So suck on that.)

Another thing that pissed me off royally was the beach volleyball gold medal game last night between the USA and China. In the second set, with the USA leading, one of the Chinese players (in my eyes, anyway) feigned an injury, probably to buy time and try and throw off the rhythm of the American team. I know stuff like that happens in sports pretty frequently, but it’s the Olympics, and I think feigning injury like that, in that situation, is really lame.

(The strategy didn’t work too well. The USA won their game, and the gold medal. Suck on that times two.)
